The World’s Most Wanted: Leaders

by Mari Brias

Wanted: Leaders

If you are someone like me, then you are probably the type of person who thinks of role models when you hear the word “leader”. And if you are someone like me, you’ll probably agree that there are not enough role models in the world today.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that it is a rather comfortable value judgement on many levels. First, it implies that we are alien to the situation: the problem is out there and therefore the solution is equally to be found elsewhere. Secondly it absolves us from our responsibility and role to create solutions. It’s a very convenient way of washing our hands off any commitment to change. Thirdly, we all have an opinion about how well or how badly our leaders are doing, but we will never allow ourselves to be placed in the position of being judged for our own actions. At the end of the day, giving away our power to someone else is a cop out so that we can protect ourselves and hide behind someone else.

Unfortunately, that kind of thinking hasn’t done the world much good; the world is in need of leaders and leadership needs to be redefined.

First, we need to stop thinking that the world is something that happens outside of us. We are part of the world and we are defining the way we live in this world every single day, with every thought, decision and action. Hence, the leaders we need in the world today - the ones who are going to make a noticeable change - are ourselves. We need to be part of the solution and stop relying on others to clean up the mess. We need to start being accountable for the role we play in this world and take part in finding solutions.

No one is asking that you step up and solve the world’s problems, but yes, step up and attend to your own. We need leaders who find peace within themselves, who are compassionate and understanding, who treat others (and themselves) with love and respect. If you can do all of the above in the everyday challenges of life, then you are the leader we are looking for!

So would you like to know what it feels like to find the courage to deal with your everyday challenges with ease and grace, with dignity and peace, with love and compassion towards yourself and others?

Would you like to know that you can do so without feeling the pressure to save the world? That it is safe for you to focus on yourself and in fact a selfless, act of kindness to work on your fears and issues?

Would you like to know Creator’s truth, definition and understanding of what it means to be a leader and to be empowered? And to know what it feels like to recognise your power to make changes in the world around you?

Would you like to have Creator’s wisdom and discernment when using your power, and the knowledge that it is your Divine Gift to use without fear?

Would you like to know what it feels like to align your power with Creator’s truth and to be able to use it for your highest and best good in the easiest way possible?

Artist’s reflection:

It was a difficult topic for me to draw for I struggle with this issue...only because I am the youngest of 5 siblings and have been trained as a very good follower!

Reflecting on how this has showed up in my life, I learned in the past week that I always pushed away notions of being a leader and opportunities to express my true feelings on matters, not because I was afraid or unfit, but because I felt unworthy. Being a leader wasn't my responsibility. I didn't deserve to be in a position of power because I didn't trust my own power to uphold certain values for myself and other people.

Then, I saw myself for the first time in a different light - I run my own business, I adhere to my own values and respect the ones of those around me and I take care of people (my family and employees) very well. So that makes me a great leader!

This artwork took a long time to create, but when it came, it flowed just like water. This is represented by the color blue surrounding the image, the color of the chakra which communicates our truest Self. The girl is circled by the snake which symbolizes wisdom; being a leader requires trusting our intuition and wisdom. The Angel wings remind us to be in a higher vibrational state when leading, the true state and essence of a real leader.
