Making Kids Happy with Happy Andrada

Designer Happy Andrada shared with VESTI Conversations her recently launched kids collection and what motivated her to do so - creating beautiful and fun pieces contrary to the pandemic situation is always an inspiring endeavor. Read our short exchange below.

VESTI: You recently launched a line of kids’ wear along with your main collections, what inspired or motivated you to do so?

Happy: It’s my second kids wear collection, I launched one way back 2010. It’s been quite a while. I decided to launch a fun kids wear line because despite of the pandemic and everything going on, its nice to create something fun, different, and at the same time comfy for kids.

V: You are known to have an aesthetic that combines whimsy and function at the same time always championing the Filipino look - how do these translate to your kids line as well?

H: For this collection, I created something inspired by the Filipiñana dress which is the kimona and baro’t saya.

V: Launching a new collection, much so a new category, during this time of pandemic surely poses sets of difficulty - how did you manage the business during this crucial time?

H: I used to be in my atelier all the time and my clothes were in my showroom but since the pandemic happened, I have shifted my business to a more online platform, I focused on online selling and virtual meetings.

V: Is the kids line creating a very promising future for your business - what is your vision/goal for this market?

H: I’m coming out with more collections in the future. I’m thinking of coming out with a more diverse collections ranging from everyday wear to formal wear.

V: Lastly, in your words, how would you describe your kids line? What is your favorite piece?

H: My kids wear line is something fun, comfy, stylish, and unique. It comes with a headband… I can’t choose, I love it all!
