A Lesson on Change and Waiting

VESTI family,

It has been more than 16 months since the pandemic hit us.  Whether we admit it or not, we are all counting and waiting.

We have been counting because we have put in the real work and diving deeper into ourselves. Following safety protocols to ensure the lives around us. Showing up for back-to-back zoom meetings even if we are totally unprepared. Working so hard in sticking to a routine because progress is difficult.

We have been waiting because we know how important it is to wait.  Getting ourselves vaccinated, regardless of time, place, and circumstance because this is real work too. And it is a pivotal moment of embracing change and of saving lives.

We gain momentum day-by-day, as opposed to year-by-year.

We create the simplest and grandest of joy within our sacred spaces, as opposed to travelling around the world.

We understand the urgency of rest, as opposed to unnecessary hustle work.

We take refuge in our own creativity and communities.

We learn to let go and not take all matters seriously.

Adding words by Morgan Harper Nichols, an artist, poet and musician.  She wrote in "9 things you learn in waiting”:

  1. You learn to pace yourself.

  2. You learn how freeing it can be to not compare yourself to anyone else.

  3. You learn that you are growing in the waiting, even when it feels like the slowest growth you’ve ever experienced.

  4. You learn that quiet moments can be their own kind of music and it’s worth taking the time to see it that way.

  5. You learn that just because someone else seems to be ina better position than you, it doesn’t mean they’re better than you as a human being.

  6. You learn that it may take some time to see how all of pieces will come together, but learning to breathe and embrace the grace that runs wild through the landscape of your life is what matters.

  7. You learn that you don’t always have to have a plan for everything.

  8. You learn to trust that the progress you’re making has meaning and value, no matter how seemingly insignificant or small. you learn that progress matters even if you can’t see it in the present moment.

  9. you are learning that the future might end up looking differently than you thought it would… but there’s peace in trusting that it can still be good.

We trust that you are all taking care of yourselves. May our sense of hope and excitement increase for greater and wonderful things to come.  We continue to breathe a collective sigh of relief. Taking a pause with this morning’s cup of coffee.
